Rob has a love for Jeeps like squirrels have a love for nuts. Where
did that come from?! Anyway, the passion is there and I've seen him
drool over certain kinds as he passes them on the road. There was a time
he came home and was hysterical - he had seen HIS jeep that he had sold
a couple of years prior...it was just sitting there on campus. I could
see the resentment there - why did he get rid of it in the first place?
Gee.
Fast forward many years. We're living in Austin
and have a 22 month old lil man. Rob pulls in the drive with a (beater,
if you ask me) Jeep, grinning the largest smile I've seen. Before I
could stop him, Drew was racing towards the street, completely blown
away by this new toy. He was certain Daddy brought it home just for him.
As long as he was IN it, he was happy...the tear fest began the moment
it was time to say goodnight the Jeep.
Fast
forward many more years. We're living in Tyler and have a 4 year old
and a 1 year old, when the (project of a) Jeep was completed. Now
there's even more emotion than just any old car in this thing - Drew
helped Daddy in every way he could in fixing this baby up.
<insert the missing photo's of Drew and Daddy working under the Jeep :( Will add when they are found>
Now,
here we are today. Many months of driving and good times have been had
in this Jeep. It is very clear that Dillon and Drew are their Daddy's
sons. Drew is older and understands when it's time to say goodnight.
Dillon on the other hand is
struggling. He is completely obsessed. He has his own set of jeep keys that he carries
everywhere.
Any loud car that passes, Dillon is racing to the door - "JEEEEEEP" or
"DADDDY." If we are driving in our "normal" car and he see's a Jeep, oh
boy, get ready guest passengers. If the Jeep is parked outside of the
garage, in his view, we must always allow enough time for him to sit in
it before taking off in our boring, "normal" car. We are re-living
Drew's emotional departure from the Jeep - only Dillon's tear fest is
magnified by 10. Or 20.
"OK Dillon. It's time to get out..."
A man approached Rob on one of his outings and commented "Your boys really love that Jeep, huh? I saw you guys last week at Brookshires and it looked like they were having a ball." I always wonder who will call/text letting me know there was Crain Jeep sighting...
